Entrepreneurship a Great Option for Stay-at-Home Mothers
September 11, 2006
Surrey – The Women’s Enterprise Centre and Kelley Scarsbrook-Newstead founder of thestayathomemother.com are gearing up for the Stay at Home Mother Workshop Series ‘Going Solo – Developing A Home-Based Business’ on Saturday, September 30 at the Aston Pacific Inn Resort from 1pm to 4:30 pm.
This business workshop brings together local enterprising women who are interested in starting a home-based business and becoming self-employed. The Going Solo workshop presented by Women’s Enterprise Centre will focus on the key steps, essential tips and solid planning necessary for starting and building a business in British Columbia.
The event will feature successful local business women who will share their real life stories and lessons about starting and running a home-based business in British Columbia.
Women own and operate over 35 per cent of all small businesses in BC, and start their own businesses at double the rate of their male counterparts. According to forecasts by Women’s Enterprise Centre the number of women running small businesses in BC will double to 264,000 by 2015.
Four local women entrepreneurs will be featured in the workshop. Their experiences in business are as varied as the women themselves.
Pauline Pageau, Owner - SearchWerx Finding a niche in the world of internet marketing was Pauline Pageau’s key to entrepreneurial success. She started her company SearchWerx by focusing on web marketing, but more specifically on search engine promotion at a time when no one else was offering it. She now faces the challenge of keeping on top of the shifting world of search engines, and making sure that what she does brings her clients continued success.
Danielle Wilson, Owner - The Sweet Peanut Clothing Company What do Shiloh Jolie Pitt and Violet Affleck have in common, besides celebrity parents? They both sport outfits from the Sweet Peanut Clothing Company. Danielle Wilson's idea for her company came about when she was looking for clothes for her baby boys that were soft and comfortable, stylish and fun. When she could not find what she was looking for, she started designing her own line of hip and affordable baby clothes.
Jennifer DeTracey, Owner - Buzz Marketing and Consultants Jennifer DeTracey was hit hard by the dot com blues, but she didn’t let it get her down. Faced with the decision of what career path to take, she decided to start her own marketing consulting firm. DeTracey loves pinpointing promotional strategies and then watching her client’s success as the strategy plays out.
These three women will give advice and offer guidance to participants in the Stay at Home Mother Workshop Series ‘Going Solo – Developing A Home-Based Business’
Michele Sands Partridge, the owner and instructor of Kids Only Acting Classes will also be featured in the workshop to share her secrets of how she has succeeded with her home based business.
This exciting event will give women entrepreneurs the inspiration, insight and advice they need to succeed in today’s business climate.
“To enable today’s mothers with the ability to be at home with her children, this workshop will not only open up the possibility of operating a business from home, but will also teach the necessary steps and skills that a mom will need to be successful at it,” says Kelley Scarsbrook-Newstead, Black Press Columnist and founder of thestayathomemother.com.
All women who are thinking of starting a home based business or are in the beginning stages of business are encouraged to attend.
